Phil Crosbie is part of team planning the Team Verrico summer launch ball on the 19th July 2014 and will be hosting the evening with his colleague Anna Lundy.
'I met Anna once under “normal” circumstances. I remember it vividly as it involved food; spaghetti bolognaise. I really admired Anna and the way that she played along with Paul’s idea of being Italian. The spaghetti bolognaise was good and I most likely had a second helping.
Whilst not knowing Anna very well, I saw the other half of the story sitting opposite Paul for around five years. I remember the days that Paul supported Anna as they went for tests, I remember being put on loudspeaker as they drove back from the hospital and I remember sitting opposite an empty chair for a long time. Paul and Anna did everything possible to give themselves the best opportunity of winning their battle whilst also looking after two children and creating the foundations for Team Verrico. If anything positive could come out of the past year, then this is it.
I have very few skills other than telling bad jokes and pretending to be a bodybuilder. I therefore decided to enter a bodybuilding competition in November 2013 (in my defence I was raising money for Anna's fighting fund at the time). I found myself stood on stage in Hayes in a posing pouch in front of 300 people on a Sunday night. I had asked Anna and Paul for some help in choosing posing music and was delighted with Anna's choice selection of LMFAO’s ‘sexy and I know it’. If I was ever concerned about having to stand in my pants in front of strangers, covered in fake tan and baby oil, that paled in comparison to posing to the lyrics “wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, yeh, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, yeh, yeh”.
Another contest beckons in September 2014 in Leeds, but before then I have the honour of co-presenting the Launch Ball in July. It would be great if we could fill the Baths Hall with the community that has supported the Verricos and everyone else who fancies doing something worthwhile (whilst also getting fed - key priority).
I will lay on the bad jokes and, if they fail, I’ll resort to my other skill….'
