Sunday the 28th of September will bring about the 5th Isle of Axholme Half Marathon. An event that last year Anna Verrico was determined to complete. Despite receiving the devastating news that her cancer had returned, Anna was able to complete a one mile fun run that was arranged specifically for her. Along with money raised for Anna’s treatment, a total of £20,000 raised that day was donated to the University of Sheffield Cancer Research Unit. The event set the foundations of Team Verrico as it is today.
This year sees the event aptly renamed as the Anna Verrico Half Marathon as runners and supporters alike continue to raise funds for the Team Verrico’s mission.
Sunday is an important day for Team Verrico. It marks an extraordinary journey from grief and celebrates not just Anna’s life, but the birth of a charity determined to inherit Anna’s strength to make a real difference.
The same one mile fun run remains and we ask all of you to join us. There will be face painting, cake selling and other opportunities to show support. A warm up will be led by model Georgina Ford at 9am with the fun run starting at 9:45am and the half marathon commencing at 10am. Most importantly, being there, wearing pink and shouting words of encouragement to the runners demonstrates your care and support.
You can donate to any of the runners taking part in the half marathon by visiting our Just Giving page.
More information on the charity can be found via the purpose page, inclusive of the two awareness films that were produced for the charity’s summer launch ball in July. The two films explained to guests why funds raised are so important to research, how the money is put to use and further what impact that funding has on the lives of individuals.
We look forward to seeing you Sunday.
