Charity Commission Registration: just a number?
This week, Team Verrico received official charity status and can now be found on the Register of Charities at number 1158126. Jackie McHale, Team Verrico Trustee and Treasurer, explains why registration is such an important step:
“The simple answer is that registration is a legal requirement. An organisation carrying out wholly charitable purposes and activities with an annual income of over £5,000 must register with the Charity Commission. As the success of recent Charity Launch Ball demonstrates, Team Verrico's ambitions go somewhat beyond this threshold. We aim to make a difference!
“There are many practical advantages to registration. Holding a Registered Charity Number allows Team Verrico to maximise its fundraising. Special tax reliefs are available to charities registered in the UK. This means that more of the money you donate goes towards our fight. A key example of this is our ability to register with websites like JustGiving. JustGiving will help us streamline donations and process Gift Aid quickly and efficiently.
“Registration also allows Team Verrico access to more routes of funding. Many public grants are available only available to registered charities and the status gives Team Verrico more credibility as a beneficiary organisation.
“Regulated by the Charity Commission, Team Verrico's activities will be closely monitored to ensure that all funds raised by the charity are put to the benefit of the public by furthering Team Verrico's objectives.
“We are all incredibly excited here at Team Verrico to have received this recognition and cannot wait to see what we can achieve over the coming months.”
