Sam Young is 14 years old. He achieved his Grade 8 piano at the age of 12 and in December 2013 passed his Diploma (Dip ABRSM) with distinction.
Whilst piano has always been his first instrument he is now studying composition at the Junior Royal Academy of Music every Saturday and highlights so far have included a new carol, a new piece for a harp ensemble and a first commercial publication (an arrangement of a piece for trombone).
Sam's principal keyboard favourites are a mixture of classical and jazz (with ragtime, Gershwin and plenty more besides thrown in). He promised his parents that he would have written a commercially successful West End musical by the age of 17 - younger than Lloyd Webber wrote Jesus Christ Superstar - but until then Dad will be continuing the day job as a Lawyer.
For Team Verrico, Sam will be playing a programme reflecting all the above at the Summer ball, as well as performing for the first time a short piece written specially in honour of Anna.
